Namaskar and Welcome to the website of the Dharmic Naujawaan

The Dharmic Naujawaan continues to conduct HIV/AIDS awareness activities, particularly on the Essequibo Coast and West Coast of Demerara. The activities are part of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s HIV/AIDS Education and Support Programme and are aimed at increasing awareness, promoting abstinence and faithfulness among Hindus, and fostering empathy for those persons living with HIV/AIDS.

In combating this epidemic, we turn to the great teachings of Sanata Vedic Dharm, which is dynamic and has the solution to all our problems.

Hinduism advocates:

1.   BRAHMACHARYAremaining celibate when single and faithful in marriage.

Through the practice of Brahmacharya, you not only prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, but prevent the transmission of many other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) and social ailments.

2.   VRATA (Sacred Vows) – Embracing and Honouring Sacred Vows, such as marriage.

“Uphold your vows as spiritual contract with your soul, your community, with God, and never waver in fulfilling them.”

3.   DAYA (Compassion) – Practice compassion to those living with HIV/AIDS. “Foster sympathy for others’ needs and suffering. Assist those who are weak or in pain. Oppose abuse and cruelties.”

DNJ encourages you to:

1.  Practice divine conduct (Brahmacharya):

Before marriage, use vital energies for study and after marriage in creating family success.

Don't waste the sacred force by promiscuity in thought, word or deed.

         Seek holy company.

         Dress and speak modestly.

Shun pornography, sexual humour and violence.

2.  Be compassionate to those living with HIV/AIDS.

3.  Educate your brothers, sisters, parents, relatives, friends, neighbours and others about HIV/AIDS and how to stop the spread of this infection.
